I don't use it in professional situations because I grew weary of how it could do a jillion amazing things I'd never need and yet couldn't do certain simple things simply or at all. All due respect to the folks at Cockos, but it definitely is geared toward the project studio workflow and not what a straightforward professional environment needs. Those who say there's nothing it can't do are simply incorrect.
For the least problems, from my experiences on both mac and pc, it is sadly still ( in 2016 ) to use the software specifically designed for use with that plugin format, and the platform best suited to it :

One thing I think is peculiar -- and this has been commented to me in the 3DW by someone who's on a Mac but watching these developments -- is why there are a very small handful of people who have made it some sort of campaign to attack one software or another.
So, if some stupid apps were still using , all my data was exposed. Even have a MitM problem. ’s products say iOS, macOS have a login trusted Certificates in Keychain, but what for Android? Some devices have they own back doors.

The locations to which REAPER's various resources are installed will depend on whether you are using OS X or Windows, and even then which version. For example, Windows 7 behaves differently from XP. To identify where the various files are located, choose Show REAPER resource path in explorer/ finder from the Options menu.
Ive had similar bad experiences throughout the years…almost giving up, but doing a more throurough system checkup before that. I am however, thinking of fully going over to logic/mainstage or ableton live, cause what i need most, is a STABLE system that can run everything LIVE with MINIMAL latency….recording, mastering etc. comes second place for me these thought of the possibility of going stand alone since I mainly use guitar rig, but then also need to run midi and vocal channel(s) so it almost has to be some sort of “DAW”..
